What is Color Gamut?

Different devices such as digital cameras, scanners, monitors, and printers have varying capabilities in reproducing colors. Expressing Color Gamut

The most common method used for expressing the color gamut of display products is the xy chromaticity diagram of the XYZ color system, established by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). This diagram represents the colors of the visible spectrum using numerical figures and graphs them as color coordinates. In the xy chromaticity diagram, the range of colors visible to the human eye is indicated by an area shaped like an upside-down “U” surrounded by dotted lines.

Various standards govern color gamuts, with sRGB, Adobe RGB, and NTSC being the most frequently cited for personal computers. Adobe RGB

Defined by Adobe Systems in 1998, this standard offers a broader color range than sRGB, particularly in the green domain. It is widely used in professional color imaging environments and the print and publishing industries.

NTSC

The standard for analog television, developed by the National Television Standards Committee of the United States. It has a color range close to Adobe RGB but with slightly different R and B values.
